Applying MAGNA in U-Space

GAUSS

Background

GAUSS: Galileo-EGNOS as an Asset for UTM Safety and Security. H2020 project of the European Commission. U-space is defined as a set of procedures and services to support safe, efficient, and secure access to airspace for UAS. GAUSS aims to develop a safety UTM developing in-flight services for integrating rotary and fix-wing UAS flying in the U-space. Part of the integration with MAGNA was published. Explicative videos of experiments here.

MAGNA implementation

MAGNA served as a simulation framework that allows to develop and test U-space services in a scenario with fixed and rotary wings UAS sharing the airspace.

Below it is shown the schema of the integration of the U-Space module (out of this work) with MAGNA.

A use case presenting the situation of a fire alarm on a forest is now shown. The timeline below shows the information exchanged between U-Space provider and MAGNA during the evacuation process.

Experiments

Finally, two simulations self-explain the use case events. In the first one, an ordinary situation of 5 drones executing 5 different tasks. The second one shows two critical events: flightpaths dangerous approximation and the fire alarm evacuation.
